I had a showerthought on pandemics and panic shopping

I have been visiting Thailand off and on for 30 years and like it very much. Then I had a very profound question on how Thailand must be different from most western countries.

When there is a hint of a financial catastrophe, a sniffle of a pandemic or some other crisis, the first thing we do is to rush to the shops to buy up all the toilet paper. It always happen. An extended holiday with a few days extra of closed shops? All toilet paper gone.

So, in Thailand there are bum guns everywhere. What is it you panic shop in the shops when problems comes along? Surely it can’t be toilet paper?
