Hunger striking reformist protester moved to Thammasat U Hospital

Tantawan Tuatulanon, a detained political activist, was transferred to Thammasat University Hospital from the Corrections Hospital yesterday, as her hunger strike reached its ninth day.

The Thai Lawyers for Human Rights Centre revealed details of the transfer today and said it was due to her seriously deteriorating condition, resulting from the hunger strike. She is weak and has lost a significant amount of weight.

Tantawan and Natthanon Chaimahabutra were arrested on February 13for invo lvement in an incident with a royal motorcade.

After being charged twice for alleged acts of lèse majesté in 2022, Tantawan, aged 22, was arrested again on charges of sedition, breaking the Computer Crime Act and causing a public disturbance.

A conviction for sedition alone carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison, as per Article 116 of the Criminal Code….
