Hundreds sealed inside outer Bangkok apartment where COVID-19 spread

Hundreds living inside an apartment building in northwest metro Bangkok will be sealed inside for 10 days after dozens of migrant workers living there contracted COVID-19. 

Fearful of a wider outbreak, Nonthaburi’s provincial governor today ordered the Jirajit Apartment building on Soi Phibunsongkram 21 sealed until May 24 after at least 91 building residents tested positive for COVID-19.

While those found to be ill have been hospitalized, everyone remaining in the building is required to report to local officials, according to the order issued by Gov. Suchin Chaichumsak. Government reps were on site at the venue Friday.

There are 157 rooms in the five-story building, reportedly occupied mostly by migrant workers employed at the Nonthaburi Municipality and Sombat markets. Suchin did not specify their nationalities.
