How to predict the rains and weather in Bangkok.

I’ve seen many users here are complaining about weather app prediction. Yea, they aren’t doing well here because we are in tropical climate and monsoon trough usually brings us a big amount of rain in a few hours so they just predict 50% or 60% of rain everyday and miss the exact timing of rain.

Lemme introduce about seasons, we’ve 3 seasons here ; Summer, Rainy and Winter.

Summers (March to mid May) usually featured hot weather up to 40-41 C. Occasionally windstorm which we call a summerstorm happens. Summerstorms usually bring strong winds (60-70 kph) and a decent amount of rain. The biggest concern is the heatstroke that has taken many lives here.

Rainy (mid May to mid Oct) have more rainy days than dry days especially September that rains almost everyday. Rains will not gently light rain that poring all day but what you should expect is a few clouds in the morning then heavy rain in the evening.

Winter (Mid Oct to March) Sunny, sometimes no rain for weeks. Some days are quite hot (but not going above 35 like summer) but somedays are cold in the morning (below 20 is possible in November to January).

Note that the length of the seasons may vary by years.

Now, time to know how to see the real time nowcast. I don’t recommend any weather forecast application here because it’s mostly a crap here as temperature usually remain the same highs and lows for all the week and it would show you a 50% chance of rain everyday. Take a look here.

1. [Official rain radar](https://weather.bangkok.go.th/Radar/RadarAnimationNk.aspx) , have an updated radar every 5 mins and featured an animation radar of around 50 mins past. There are 2 radars, [Nong Chok](https://weather.bangkok.go.th/Radar/RadarNongchok.aspx) in the eastern flank of the city and [Nong Kheam](https://weather.bangkok.go.th/Radar/RadarNongkam.aspx) on the western flank. Both are the same for me but I don’t know in-depth info such as resolution of efficiency of these radar. Anyway, the seems to work well for a few years with few maintenance.

2. [Zoom earth website radar](https://zoom.earth/maps/radar/#view=14.596,102.051,6.26z) this is an easier way to approach as they seems use info from official site to process on application. However, there are 10-20 minutes away but you can click on the area you want to see the amount of rains in your area even there are some inaccuracies. This application also track tropical storms incoming with forecast lines.

I’ll continue about how to interpret radars on the next post. Hope this helps!
