Go fly a kite along the Chao Phraya River now though Songkran

Get that giddy feeling running with a string – or just enjoy the show – now through Songkran weekend at the riverside Icon Siam shopping mall.

Promoting nostalgic vibes, the mall’s waterfront concourse has been given over to visitors to fly kites, once a popular summer sport since the 13th century, 4pm to 8pm every weekend evening through April 18. Guests may bring their own kite or purchase one locally made.

Top competitive flying team Thaitan will stage performances and assist those who are interested in learning to fly. Visitors can check out an exhibition of inflatable kites given fantasy shapes such as a sea horse, whale and unicorn along with other sport and stunt kites.

Those who want to design their own kites and learn some tricks can do so at a workshop after spending THB300 at the mall. The mall didn’t indicate what time the workshops and shows…
