Giglio, a real Florentine trattoria, opens on Sathorn Soi 12

Chef Manuelo Pintore, formerly of La Bottega di Luca and Peppina, and Paolo Vitaletti of Appia and Peppina, have now opened Giglio Trattoria Fiorentina. Named for the Florentine lily, the symbol of the capital city of Tuscany, Giglio is a classic trattoria, serving the traditional dishes of Tuscany.

During a Sunday lunch, Paolo and Manuelo realised there was no Florentine trattoria in Bangkok; the kind that celebrates the simple, delicious grilled meats and handcrafted pastas of the area. And so, the idea for Giglio was born.

Tuscany is Italy’s largest region, and has a wealth of delicious food traditions from its Mediterranean coast to its rolling hills and famous wine regions. The restaurant will focus on simple, classic Tuscan cooking. Dishes like hand-rolled strands of pasta, called pici, in a rich ragu of sausage and mushrooms. And ribollita, a soup of Tuscan bread, beans, and vegetables, that is a classic countryside dish. Fresh salads using Tuscan kale and olives; cold cuts and cheeses from the area; and of course, the Bistecca Fiorentina, a dry-aged T-bone steak, cooked over wood.

Because Tuscany is Italy’s most prestigious wine region, the list will solely feature wines from the area. Alongside the focused wine list, Giglio has a great little cocktail bar specialising in classic Italian cocktails.

Giglio is located on 149 Sathon Soi 12, Silom, Bang Rak, Bangkok 10500
