Giant fireball in the sky Monday night was a huge meteor : Expert

The giant fireball, which streaked across the night sky on Monday night and was seen by many people in central provinces, was a huge meteor, according to Wimut Wasalai, an expert at the Thai Astronomical Society.

In response to widespread comments and images of the fireball shared on social media, he initially said that it is possible that the fireball was a meteor, remnants of decommissioned satellite, a rocket or a space ship.

After having checked records of scheduled returns to earth of the space objects last night, however, it was concluded that the fireball was in fact, a huge meteor, said Wimut.

An update from the Thai Astronomical Society, in its Facebook post today, quoted confirmation from Jonathan McDowell, a US space expert posting on X, that it was a meteor.
