Free advanced cancer treatments piloted in four provinces

Cancer patients in four pilot provinces can now seek free plaque brachytherapy and robotic surgery for the treatment of prostate, colon, liver, pancreatic and bile duct cancer at state hospitals under the “gold card” universal health scheme, Public Health Minister Cholnan Srikaew said today.

He said that the National Health Security Board (NHSB) agreed yesterday to include treatment for these cancers under the scheme.

He said that the additional benefits will only be available in Phrae, Phetchaburi, Roi-et and Narathiwat provinces initially, under a pilot project starting on January 10t.

The minister said that the NHSB has also agreed to provide a telemedicine health consultation to Thai nationals living abroad.
