Flames consume spa on Soi Sukhumvit 51

Police are investigating what caused a spa on Soi Sukhumvit 51 to go up in flames early this morning.

Thonglor police were alerted at around 1:30am to the blaze at the Oasis Spa off Soi Sukhumvit 51. Five fire trucks were dispatched to the scene, where fire had spread through most of the structure.

It took firefighters about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control, according to Capt. Thongthorn Chatyingyongkul of Thonglor Police. 

There were no reports of injury. The two-story building housing the spa was damaged. Thongthorn said police suspect a short circuit caused the fire, but it remains under investigation.

The spa’s 31-year-old caretaker Somphop Rojthanakorn told police that he heard a loud bang from a clothing storage and electrical room on the ground floor. Flames quickly spread through the clothes and wooden walls, Somphop said.
