Relevant Chonburi fire departments are still trying to fully contain a fire that engulfed a large car part factory in Chonburi’s Banglamung district, today, January 6th.
More than 100 firefighters and 10 fire trucks mobilized to extinguish the fire that broke out at 3:30 AM early this morning. The incident scene is a car part manufactory named “Supawut Industry Company” located in the Pong sub-district.
The factory sits on a 20-rai plot of land and produces several vehicle parts as well as plastic models. The plant also has 5 warehouses, with warehouse No. 2 used for painting car parts already collapsing due to a fierce fire. Black smoke was clouding the site.
Shortly after the collapse, the fire spread to the back of the plant, which is a chemical waste dumping area located next to the plant’s fuel service station. Firefighters are attempting as of early this morning to contain the fire to prevent it from reaching the fuel station that has over 15,000 liters of fuel stored in a tank. Hundreds of workers were able to escape and run to safety.
Banglamung mayor Mr. Phisit Sirisawatdinukul ordered everyone in a 50-meter radius of the building to evacuate. He assessed that the total damage is more than 100 million baht. The fire still cannot be fully contained as of press time, as various buildings are on the verge of collapse. A foul smell lingered in the air far away from the site.
The cause of the inferno remains unclear. No injuries or casualties are reported. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-===-=-=-=–=–=–=–==-
