Fire destroys temple buildings in Ubon

UBON RATCHATHANI: A fire caused major damage to three buildings at a temple housing a revered old statue in Muang district early on Tuesday, with damage estimated at 10 million baht.

Wat Paknam Bungsaphang, at Bungsaphang village in tambon Kut Lat, houses a 700-year-old statue of master monk Luang Pho Ngoen.

The fire started about 6.30am in a two-storey wooden building with a kitchen on the ground floor and sleeping quarters upstairs, Pol Lt Col Chalong Ukha, a duty officer at Muang station, said. 

The flames quickly spread to two adjacent wooden buildings for monks and novices.
