Fire breaks out at Major Cineplex Sukhumvit in Ekkamai

A shopping mall near BTS Ekkamai closed to visitors this morning after a blaze erupted inside. 

At around 5am, firefighters rushed to Major Cineplex Sukhumvit, located between sois Sukhumvit 61 and 63, to put out the fire that reportedly broke out on the third, fourth and fifth floors. Plumes of smoke could be seen from outside the building. 

No injuries or deaths were reported, according to Capt. Kritsada Chotsawad of Thonglor police. The flames were brought under control at around 7am. 

Major Cineplex Sukhumvit announced at around 9:30am that the mall would be closed today. It suggest moviegoers watch films at its sister branches instead.

Authorities suspect a short circuit as the cause of the fire but will investigate further.
