Family of slain doctor sues Royal Thai Police, cop who hit her for 72M baht

The family of an eye doctor who was killed by a speeding cop while she crossed a Bangkok road filed a lawsuit yesterday seeking THB72 million (US$2.2 million) in damages from the Royal Thai Police. 

Anirut Supawatjariyakul and Ratchanee Supawatjariyakul – the parents of Waraluck Supawatjariyakul – and their legal team named two defendants in their suit: the Royal Thai Police and Lance Cpl. Norawich Buadok, who was racing an unregistered Ducati motorcycle when he hit and killed Waraluck as she crossed Phaya Thai Road. 

Anirut and Ratchanee are demanding THB72 million (US$2.2 million) in damages.

Anirut said that no price can be put on his daughter’s life, but the figure amounted to an “initial assessment” of her potential contributions to the country.
