In a tour de force by a team veteran head coach Chris Drake called “as good as any I’ve had,” Torrey Pines High School rolled to its third straight CIF Division I girls’ golf title Thursday, Nov. 2, at Torrey Pines North Course.
The Falcons, led by sophomore Zoe Jiamanukoonkit, overwhelmed the field, posting a 36-hole team score of 14-over par (729) to finish a whopping 80 strokes clear of second place Rancho Bernardo which was another 12 strokes ahead of third place Canyon Crest Academy.
The section victory was the fourth in the last five years for Torrey Pines and 18th overall. Twelve of those have come under the direction of Drake, who was not surprised by what he saw from his charges last week and explained post-tourney what he thought set them apart from others…
