Election complaints fell 72% from 2019, commission says

Scattered complaints of vote buying, malfeasance and abuse of power led what amounted to nearly 170 election-related complaints, the Election Commission said Monday.

Commissioners Ittipon Boonprakong and Saewang Boonmee summarized the conduct of Sunday’s general election, reporting that there had only been 168 complaints of misconduct.

On Election Day, 24 were cases of torn ballots, and seven involved alcohol sales during the prohibited period, and four cases of people photographing marked ballots.

Complaints filed by 9am this morning included 59 accusations of vote buying, 58 cases of false accusations, 18 involving state officials abusing their positions as well as various violations of election law and political party regulations.

It was a drastic reduction by about 72% from the 592 complaints filed in the 2019 general election.
