Effective tomorrow, Bangkok residents asked to stay home for 14 days unless ‘necessary’

Thai authorities this morning approved stricter measures for Bangkok and its neighboring provinces that will close shopping malls and encourage everyone to stay home. 

Effective tomorrow, people living in Bangkok and its metro areas have been asked for their “cooperation” not to leave their homes between 10pm and 4am. The authorities opted not to call it a “curfew,” however.

The de-facto lockdown will see closures of shopping malls except for the supermarkets and pharmacies within them; those are allowed to operate with limited hours.

Residents are urged to work from home unless their professions, such as healthcare, require them to leave the house. Activities that will be allowed include going out to buy food and groceries, seeing a doctor and getting vaccinated.
