Early Morning Downpour Submerges Pattaya Streets

Pattaya —

Torrential rainfall was observed throughout Pattaya City and its surrounding areas early this morning, October 25th, lasting for nearly an hour.

The onslaught of heavy rain occurred in line with the Thai Meteorological Department’s warning of increased rainfall and gusty winds across various regions of Thailand, including the northeastern, central, and upper southern regions, from October 24th to the 29th, 2023.

This is due to the weakening of a high-pressure system and a cool air mass over upper Thailand and the South China Sea, coupled with an approaching monsoon trough.

In Pattaya, the relentless rainfall, reported around 1:30 AM, resulted in flooding in several areas, with water levels reaching up to over 50 centimeters in some spots.

On Third Road at the Moom Aroi intersection, police and municipal officials had to park city vehicles on the side of the road with hazard lights on to warn drivers of the high flooding ahead. They also provided assistance to residents whose vehicles were affected by the flooding.

Other areas experiencing elevated water levels included Wat Nong Yai, Soi Sukhumvit Phothisan, Soi Khao Noi, Soi Khao Talo, and the road by the railway connecting Khao Talo to Khao Noi. Thankfully, due to improved drainage systems, the floodwaters receded quickly, returning traffic conditions to normal about 1-2 hours after the rain ceased.
