Drowsy driver likely to blame for deadly van inferno that killed 11

Police believe that exhaustion was likely responsible for a van that crashed in Nakhon Ratchasima and burst into flames, killing 11 people, including two children.

Families of the passenger van victims have been seeking answers since the Saturday incident that killed a 6-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl. 

Only one passenger, Thanachit Kingkaew, survived. 

From their ongoing investigation, police have concluded that the blaze erupted due to a gas leak after the crash that caused the inferno. According to the GPS, the car was traveling at only 87kph, but no application of its brakes was detected.

While police have not officially determined the cause of the fatal crash, they believe driver Wanchai Sewaphop was asleep behind the wheel, according to Col. Yongyos Paladech, chief of Si Kew Police Station.
