I was wondering why BA.2.75 was the main strain to replace BA.5 despite the results of several laboratory tests that this strain of virus did not have immune escape properties from the vaccine. Or a natural landscape that is outstanding like other species

The results of this study showed that BA.2.75 was remarkable for its ability to bind to ACE2 receptor proteins on the cell surface 9 times better than the original BA.2, which could explain that escaping the immune system might not be very good. But it binds well to cells and can become a main strain of the virus. Using escape ability alone may not be enough to predict the direction of the virus to adapt itself.

Viruses that will become the dominant strain in nature seek to strike a balance between their ability to bind to receptor proteins. and the ability to escape the landscape to a reasonable level Which one is in the perfect position is probably the most suitable one in nature.
