Doi Inthanon day-trip recommendations

I’m traveling alone to CM in November, staying in the old town and this will be my first time there. I’ve heard that Doi Inthanon is worth a day trip.

I’ve see several online sites offering day trips and such but would just like to hear some personal recommendations based on experience. I don’t mind paying a little extra for a personal guide or being part of a small group.
