Next month I will be moving to Nakhon Si Thammarat City to work. It seems like a beautiful place with lots of beautiful beaches and mountains nearby.
I told one of my Thai friends this (they live in Isaan) and there first reaction was that I have to be careful because there is just too much crime there. Also that Nakhon is nicknamed “the Texas of Thailand” because nearly everyone owns a firearm.
Actually I am not worried at all because nearly the whole of Thailand is a lot safer than my home country but I did find the reaction a bit curious. How much truth is there to this? Does everyone carry around firearms or just keep them at home? Obviously I will be trying extra hard not to get in fights with the local people 😅
