Torbay Thai, which claims to be Torbay’s oldest Thai restaurant, passed into the very capable hands of Janthana Rodkhongkha, better known by the nickname Boo, in December. It was a smooth transition as she knows the business very well indeed – she has been the chef there for 24 years.
Boo’s aunt opened the little spot, in the Preston area of Paignton, 27 years ago and has now retired. Boo has redecorated the 18-cover restaurant and takeaway to put her own stamp on it, but kept the name because it is so well-known in the community.
Sitting proudly on the wall is a large picture of her daughter, Torbay-born Julieanna Blatchford, or Julie, from the time she was crowned Miss Thailand World, in 2011, while on a gap year after college.
