Dental work with no anaesthetic?

I’ve been having some pain in my back teeth recently, which I assumed was related to gum disease or a cavity.

I went to a well reviewed and recommended dental clinic in Udon Thani. I was told I needed a clean up and two fillings.

Where I’m from in the UK, your gums are injected with a numbing agent before having the fillings done. This did not happen here, the dentist went straight in with the drilling and filling …. It was painful to say the least.

I’m curious if this is the norm in Thailand or should I have specifically asked for anaesthetic?
