Dad of injured Cornish woman in Thailand nearly died himself in the same spot 35 years ago

The father of a young Cornish woman who was left for dead by the side of the road after being in a crash in Thailand has recalled how he nearly died himself virtually in the same spot some 35 years ago.

Joe Spry has been glued to his phone awaiting news from his wife Yesmine and his brother who have flown out to Thailand to be with daughter Ruby.

The 20-year-old from Penzance followed in her dad’s footsteps and decided to go travelling after her A Levels, and has so far visited places like Eastern Europe and South America. However, while on the Thai island of Ko Pha Ngan she hired a motorbike one evening last week and barely escaped with her life when another motorbike travelling in the opposite direction went to overtake on the wrong side of the road and ploughed into her.
