I think I need foreigner take on this topic especially if you are not Asian (I’m a local Thai. Sorry for my grammar)
Since I was young our pop music sometimes take an element likes clothes and instrument from other culture, mainly China and India, and I never paid attention. I got into Kpop for awhile now and saw some post attack artist who doing box braid, wearing durag or wearing cornrows. I then I start seeing some Thai artist (mainly rapper) dressing ‘hip’ fashion that inspire from African American and I kinda think “damn, they will get attack if the west find out”. Some Thai women who has dark skin also start wearing makeup that look “western” aka. Kardashian and Black.
I think since Thailand never been colonize we tend to be open to every culture and that can also mean we are less sensitive (some twitter might say less educate). Adopting other culture always seem natural in Thailand so I don’t think we will stop doing it just because some people get angry but still.. should we at least aware that the world is not really happy about it? Or because we are a small country we can get away with that?
On the other hand, I think Thai people would totally be okay if foreigners wearing Thai traditional clothes or doing Thai makeup. We even feel proud when people like our stuff.
