Covid-19: Thailand braces for new wave of infections

BANGKOK (Jan 9): As Covid-19 cases continue to surge, Thailand is making necessary preparation to brace for the new wave of infections.  

Over the last 24 hours, Thailand recorded 8,511 new cases and 12 deaths, bringing the total infections in the kingdom to 2,269,550 cases and 21,825 fatalities to date. 

The Covid-19 cases have been rising sharply for the last six consecutive days. 

Prime Minister Prayuth Chan o-cha has instructed all provincial governors who were also chairmen of provincial communicable disease committees to enforce Covid-19 restrictions and preventive measures when necessary to contain Covid-19.

“The prime minister also instructed all state-run healthcare facilities to prepare staff amid surge in cases,” said Government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana.
