Complaints Lead to Inspection of Migrant Worker Camp in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya

Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya locals filed a complaint report on a migrant worker camp where they live with over 1,000 workers causing trouble.

On October 12th, 2023, Mr. Niwat Rungsakhon, Governor of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, gave an order to the special operations team and other relevant officials, in a total of 100 officers, on a migrant workers camp inspection, Uthai, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.

Niwat received a report from Uthai locals who live near the migrant worker camp on possible trouble and annoyance, wastewater, stench, and stealing of vegetables. However, Uthai locals had filed complaints before to relevant officials and no one had allegedly responded to the requests.

Uthai police officers and public health officials aimed to investigate and crack down on illegal migrant workers. In an initial investigation, more than 1,000 Myanmar and Cambodian migrant workers were found with 350 workers who had no documentation or work permits.
Uthai police officers then escorted the illegal migrant workers to the Uthai District Office and called the employers to present documentation and work permits.

It was unclear what legal actions and charges would take place to the employers as of press time.
