A pillion-riding Thai woman was tragically killed after her motorbike was reportedly rear-ended by a British driver. The impact caused the woman to be thrown onto the road, where she was subsequently hit by another vehicle and killed.
The victim, Ms. Pornwalai Boonpok, 37, a caddy, was riding on the back of her friend’s motorbike, Ms. Arunwan Wannawong, 39, when they were reportedly hit in the back by a white MG sedan.
The two women were flung off their vehicle from the impact and landed on the road, where Ms. Pornwalai unfortunately got hit by a passing pickup truck. She was pronounced dead from her grievous head injuries at the scene of the accident on Sukhumvit Road inbound to Pattaya in the Na Jomtien sub-district, Sattahip district, Chonburi.
The tragic accident was reported to Na Jomtien Police at 8:30 PM on April 29th. Ms. Arunwan, the victim’s friend, also suffered non-fatal injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Police identified the sedan driver who rear ended the victims only as Mr. Christopher, 64, of British nationality. They also disclosed the identity of the pickup driver who crashed into the deceased victim as Mr. Sommai Klinpirom, 38, of Thai nationality.
Mr. Sommai claimed that Mr. Christopher rear ended the victims’ vehicle, causing them to fall onto his lane. He said he could not brake and crashed into the victim, which killed her.
There was no report of the British driver’s statement.
