China expects Thai royal family to boost China-Thailand friendship

China values its friendship with the Thai royal family, and expects them to continue making positive contributions to boost China-Thailand friendship under the new situation, Wang Yi, a senior Chinese diplomat, said on Tuesday.

Wang, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks when he met with Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of the Kingdom of Thailand in Beijing.

It’s Princess Sirindhorn’s 50th visit to China. Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, hailed her visit as memorable and a new starting point.

He noted that the princess symbolizes that China and Thailand are as close as a family and acts as the most important envoy of friendship.

Last November, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Thailand, and together with Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua, ushered in a new era of building a China-Thailand community with a shared future.

Adhering to the blueprint drawn by the leaders of the two countries, China is willing to work with Thailand to advance the relationship of the two countries as close as one family, deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and enrich the connotation of a China-Thailand community with a shared future, he stressed.

Princess Sirindhorn said her visit to the Museum of the Communist Party of China was meaningful. She hoped to have more opportunities to visit China, learn more about it and enhance Thailand-China friendship.

Wang said that by understanding the CPC, one can understand the code of China’s changes and achievements. He hoped the princess would visit China more often, making new contributions to the mutual understanding of the two peoples.
