Check the new digital money threshold of 10,000 baht. Now you’re confused. Do poor people have rights?

From the first time the government announced the digital money policy threshold of 10,000 baht, it was stated that all Thai people aged 16 years and over have the right to receive digital money.

But on October 24th The Ministry of Finance has proposed new criteria for those eligible to receive money. It is expected that the target group will be reduced.

As follows:

  1. Proposing to cut off income-earning people 25,000 baht/month or deposit in account 1 hundred thousand baht
  2. Eliminates people with incomes exceeding 50,000 baht or deposits in accounts of 500,000 baht.
  3. Offer to pay only to state welfare card holders.

It is expected that the project will begin operating during April-May 2024, along with amending the distance for using funds from the original 4-kilometer radius to the district level instead.

As a result, at this time there is still no certainty regarding the digital money threshold of 10,000 baht. We must wait for the Digital Money Policy Committee to decide again.
