Caregiver Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Over 500,000 Baht from Bedridden Patient in Bangkok

Bangkok—

On November 3rd, 2023, Thai Crime Suppression officers captured a caregiver for allegedly stealing money with a total of over 500,000 baht at a bedridden patient’s house in Huai Khwang, Bangkok.

The alleged suspect was publicly identified only as Ms. Ubonrat, 27, and faced charges according to the Thai criminal court order of theft at night and illegal use of another person’s electronic card.

The victim’s family had previously hired Ubonrat as a caregiver from a caregiver service to take care of a bedridden patient, 81. Ubonrat was sent to look after the patient and had been living at the victim’s residence since August of 2023. The victim’s name was withheld for her privacy.

According to the daughter of the patient’s testimony, on October 19th, she was going to withdraw cash from an ATM, but the money in the account was not enough which should have been over 700,000 baht. The daughter then filed a report to Huai Khwang police officers to find the culprit which later led to the issuance of an arrest warrant on Ubonrat.

Ubonrat reportedly confessed her wrongdoings and spent all the victim’s money on online gambling. Initially, the Huai Khwang police officers took hold of Ubonrat for further legal proceedings.
