Buying a Mobile on a Mobile Plan

I want to get a new phone, and I know I can get a discount by signing up with the mobile plan I have. However, if I leave the country before the plan is up, I was told I would have to pay back the discount. What happens if I just stop paying for the account when I leave? Would it flag my passport or anything like that if I decide to visit again in the future?
