Buddhists threatened, phone towers torched in Narathiwat

NARATHIWAT: A cloth banner was found hung from a bridge in Si Sakhon district of this Muslim-dominated southern border province, telling Buddhist Thais to stop hunting in the area, police said.

This was reported to Si Sakhon police on Sunday morning by the headman of Moo 6 village in tambon Si Sakhon.

The banner read “Buddhist Thais are not allowed to hunt in this area for Muslims to make their living”, and  was hung over a bridge in the adjoining area of Ire Tui and Kalubi villages in tambon Sako.

Meanwhile, two mobile phone signal posts belonging to True and Dtac were set on fire and damaged in Moo 6 village in tambon Si Sakhon.  

At Ban Ire Yaeng village in tambon Si Sakhon, the words “Soldiers get out” were spray-painted on the surface of the road between Si Sakhon and Chanae districts.

The three spots were cordoned off for further investigation.
