Border run Mae Sai

In a strange situation and looking for advice. 30 day visa expires tomorrow, which I had a flight planned, but for many reasons can’t make now. So looking to do a border run Chiang Mai -> Mae Sai -> Chiang Mai. Only problem is buses are full tomorrow.

Options are pay a very high fee for private taxi service, or wait one day and take bus. If I wait I’ll overstay by 1 day, which will be a fine (I’m ok with), but I’m worried this will impact on getting back in to Thailand.

Any advice or experience from anyone?
