I met a refugee family this week in Bangkok, and they invited my family to their house for breakfast. They have three children and speak very little Thai, very little income, and no family support. The mother made us an amazing meal and insisted we eat while she sat and watched. It was somewhat awkward to be honest, I felt bad eating their food when they had so little, but they seemed to really want to host our family and to provide a home cooked meal for us. So we are every bite off our plates and thanked them profusely.
They did not ask for anything from us. They thanked us for coming and said we were welcome to return any time.
After thinking on the experience, I would like to make a monthly deposit into an account for them in the range of a couple hundred dollars per month that they can use for food, family outings, etc. Does anyone know of an account that they could use here in Thailand that I could deposit to from the US? I could set it up and then provide access information thru a mutual friend and keep it all anonymous.
