Berkshire fire service’s warning as wildfire risk increases with hot weather

The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service has sent out a reminder to people that with the increasing temperatures being forecast, people need to play their part in keeping safe amid an increasing wildfire risk. The reminder comes after last year’s unprecedented temperatures across most of the summer months.

During this period the service responded to hundreds of different fires, with July 19 2022 seeing more than 550 emergency 999 calls. Temperatures are expected to rise significantly over the next fortnight with Reading potentially seeing highs of 27C, posing the risk of wildfires taking place.

Some of the most common causes of wildfires during the summer months are from disposable BBQs. These are often left unattended or are not fully extinguished after they have been used, which lead to a potential fire hazard.
