Beaches like or better than the ones at Pattaya, ideally not too far from Bangkok with proper hotels, and maybe have things to do at the beaches like snorkeling?

I’m going with my mom and grandfather, so I’m not planning to experience any nightlife at all. Everyone here gave me some great advice, I got that Pattaya is targeted for nightlife seekers, but also Pattaya is big and there are family friendly places during the day, but also Pattaya’s beaches suck and there are better ones? Honestly a lot of different opinions, but I told my mom that she might not like Pattaya, and asked why she insisted on going there.

Her answer was that everyone on Chinese social media were raving about it, Pattaya is close to Bangkok, and she liked the shallow shores. I don’t know what kind of people she were watching, but since the beach was the only thing she focused on I figured there were many more choices.

From my research it seems the best beaches are on islands like Koh Samet or Koh Lan, but I also heard hotel selections are limited? Which of the two have better accommodations? Or do you guys have any better recommendations that aren’t islands?
