Banglamung Police Crack Down on Illegal Guns and Drug Dealers

Chonburi —

Banglamung police achieved a major breakthrough on December 24th, 2023, with the successful arrest of two suspects in two separate operations.

In the first undercover operation, police arrested 41-year-old Thanakrit Huayyai and seized from him over 20,000 methamphetamine pills.

Thanakrit was arrested in a sting operation in the Chonburi area, after Banglamung police contacted him to buy 4,000 illicit pills for 30,000 baht. Following his arrest, Thanakrit confessed to hiding another 16,000 pills near his residence.

Banglamung police revealed that Thanakrit was allegedly a major drug agent targeting vulnerable groups, including young people, late-night workers, and truck drivers, in the Pattaya and Banglamung areas. Police had been observing the suspect for a month before making an arrest on December 24th.

Simultaneously, Banglamung authorities arrested 46-year-old Sermsakul Chamlongrak in connection with a suspected firearms dealing network.

According to Banglamung police, it was found that a firearms dealer, who sold a modified blank gun to a 14-year-old boy who carried out a deadly shooting at a Bangkok shopping mall earlier this year, sent packages to Sermsakul’s residence in Chonburi. Therefore, Banglamung police, armed with a court warrant, decided to raid his house to find if he had any connection with the firearms dealer.

However, no direct evidence linked Sermsakul to the dealer, Banglamung police said. Still, the Thai man faced charges of drug possession after police found 75 methamphetamine pills in his room.

The two suspects were taken into custody at the Banglamung Police Station.
