Bangkok expected to dodge worst of weakening Typhoon Noru

Typhoon Noru is weakening after making landfall this morning in Vietnam into a tropical storm that will inundate Thailand’s northeast but likely do little more than soak the capital.

Noru’s path is currently tracking northwest from where it made landfall in Da Nang, Vietnam, and will next storm over Laos and Isaan later today, with wind speeds of up to 74kph, according to government meteorologists.

Heavy rain is still expected in the north, northeast, and central Thailand, but Bangkok is unlikely to see much worse than it has for the past, wet month.

More than 400,000 evacuated in Vietnam’s Da Nang area this morning after what’s been billed as the strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines this year killed at least six people there and drove thousands from their homes.

#TyphoonNoru has been trending on Thai Twitter this morning.
