PETALING JAYA: Thailand did not give up until the end in their opening Thomas Cup Finals tie.
And their perseverance paid off in a big way as they pulled off a 3-2 upset win against Taiwan in a titanic Group A battle that lasted over four hours at the Ceres Arena in Aarhus.
As expected, Taiwan won their first two matches through their higher-ranked players Chou Tien-chen and Lee Yang-Wang Chi-lin but it was their 23-year-old star Kunlavut Vitidsarn (pic), who sparked the comeback.
The world No. 23 Kunlavut staged a stunning 24-22, 21-17 win over world No. 11 Wang Tzu-wei to keep alive his team’s challenge.
Kittinupong Kedren-Dechapol Puavaranukroh continued to ride on the momentum as they fought brilliantly to beat Lee Jhe-huei-Yang Po-hsuan 21-18, 21-17 to level the score 2-2.
