Australian PM pledges lockdown support for Victoria state, Thailand reports new daily record of 47 deaths

The following are the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia-Pacific countries on Thursday:

JAKARTA — The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia increased by 6,278 in the past 24 hours to 1,797,499, with the death toll adding by 136 to 49,907, the Health Ministry said.

KABUL — Afghanistan’s Public Health Ministry reported 764 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total nationwide infections to 69,130, including over 9,200 active cases.

The pandemic has so far claimed 2,881 lives in Afghanistan since February last year, including 12 deaths in the past 24 hours, the ministry said in a statement.
