Astute Thai cops not fooled by suspect’s amnesia ruse

A man injured trying to flee the scene of a crime was unable to convince the police he had amnesia and was charged with theft.

Alongkot Tanthien was charged with stealing two amulets yesterday after he failed to sell Taling Chan police on the idea his memory was wiped clean after jumping from the third floor of the SC Plaza market at the Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal.

When the 24-year-old man was found lying in a pool of his own blood on the ground floor, he moaned in pain and told the police, “What did I do? Where am I?”

Amulet trader Nattapong Dinprang, 22, told police that the market was hosting an amulet market on the third floor, where monks from all over the country traded and sold the sacred collectibles.
