Asian supermarket in Indiana: Eight grocers in Indianapolis

Indiana’s Asian population is still relatively small, comprising just 2.6% of Hoosiers according to the 2019 U.S. Census population estimates, but it is growing. Ten years ago, the U.S. Census found just 1.5% of Indiana was Asian, which indicates the state gained about 72,500 Asian residents in the past decade. 

A large number of those residents are Rohingya and other ethnic minority refugees from Myanmar, who arrived in the United States in particularly large numbers between October 2015 and September 2016 as they faced persecution, killings, and genocide in their home country. Indiana is home to the largest Burmese population in the United States, with 24,000 residents as of 2020.
