ASEAN currency bulls pin hopes on China’s economic recovery

TOKYO — The performance of ASEAN currencies this year will depend on China’s recovery, analysts say, with bulls betting that Asia’s largest economy will grow strong enough to boost the fortunes of its Southeast Asian neighbors.

Currencies in the region endured a lackluster first half as trade proved sluggish and Federal Reserve interest rate hikes increased the appeal of the U.S. dollar.
