A small child lost some fingers recently on an escalator at a Thai shopping mall. Unfortunately this happens so frequently that newspapers should have a dedicated column for reporting these kinds of incidents. It is very clear that inspection and preventive maintenance is lacking. Everyone should exercise extreme caution and tightly supervise their children (if any), especially looking for things like missing teeth in the comb at the edge of each step.
