Akara workers plead for govt to reopen gold mine

PHICHIT: About 300 former workers at a suspended gold mine gathered in front of the operator’s gates on Sunday, calling on the government to revive the mine’s operations.

The former employees of Akara Resources Plc, located at tambon Khao Chet Luk in Thap Khlo district, are villagers from surrounding provinces. Many hail from Noen Maprang district of Phitsanulok, Thap Khlo district of Phichit and Wang Pong district of Phetchabun.

Workers’ leaders Chaiyaporn Sudsin and Thanat Sommeechai said the suspension of the gold mine’s operations had severely affected the country’s economy as well as their communities, leaving more than 1,000…
