Affordable Bangkok fashion mecca Union Mall to close for rest of May due to ‘tiring’ situation

Union Mall, a Bangkok hub for affordable and trendy fashion, will suspend operations from Thursday until the end of the month.

The shopping center at Lat Phrao intersection announced yesterday that punishing pandemic waves have hurt the more than 1,500 stores there, and there’s no sign of when it will end. Only its restaurants will remain open for food takeaway and delivery, and it expects to reopen May 28.

“No one knows or feels confident how long this fight with the pandemic will last, and whether all businesses that are survivors today will still be around tomorrow,” read the mall’s statement. “Isn’t it tiring just thinking about it? We listened to thousands of comments from our tenants and decided to do a temporarily halt … to let them ‘rest’ from the anxiety of operating expenses and fear of getting infected with COVID-19.”
