SCG Chemicals Co (SCGC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kao Industrial (Thailand) Co and Dow Thailand Group to develop eco-friendly packaging solutions.
The MoU was signed during a ceremony at Dow Thailand’s headquarters in True Digital Park West, Bangkok.
It was attended by Kao Thailand president Yuji Shimizu, Dow Thailand president Chatchai Luanpolcharoenchai and SCGC executive director Pisan Uawithya.
As part of this collaboration, the three companies will develop packaging solutions that have multiple sustainability benefits.
This packaging is being developed for Kao, a Japanese consumer products manufacturing company, which is planning to use the new solution for a variety of its products in Thailand.
SCGC said that a more sustainable packaging alternative is being developed to ensure that Kao’s branded products have a lower carbon footprint.

The companies will develop new materials and leverage various technologies to design packaging that is easily recyclable.
Such solutions include rigid and flexible packaging, as both are capable of maintaining the required properties to safeguard the products inside while providing convenience to consumers.
Uawithya said: “In this collaboration with Kao, SCGC is ready to bring expertise in the design and development of bottles and packaging bags with green plastic innovations from SCGC GREEN POLYMER, which encompasses four main solutions: Reduce, Recyclable, Recycle, and Renewable.”
Luanpolcharoenchai added: “With our expertise in Thailand and Dow Pack Studio in Singapore, combined with our innovative plastics such as INNATE, ELITE, DOWLEX, and Dow PCR (REVOLOOP), we will help Kao develop packaging bags designed for recyclability that reduce the impact on the environment and meet the needs of consumers.”
The latest collaboration marks a crucial milestone in Kao’s journey to achieve its sustainability goals, including attaining carbon neutrality by 2050.
“Kao is committed to achieving Zero Carbon Emission by 2040 in an effort to help mitigating global warming and climate change issues,” Shimizu said.
The effort is also in line with SCGC and Dow’s commitment to minimise their own environmental impact and develop more sustainable alternatives for consumers in Thailand.
