Pattaya has unveiled its plan to address traffic congestion by implementing four monorail lines in the city, beginning with the construction of a 9.9-kilometer “Green Line” route that will connect the future high-speed train station to Bali Hai pier.
A public hearing was recently conducted on the feasibility study and environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the Pattaya City rail development project. The meeting was presided over by Pattaya Deputy Mayor Manote Nongyai, with local residents and representatives from the private and public sectors attending to listen and provide feedback on the Pattaya City Administration’s roadmap for the construction.
During the meeting, the City Hall presented proposals for four monorail routes to the public which are the Green, Yellow, Purple, and Red Lines, as well as the proposed locations of maintenance and service centers. The Green Line will be prioritized, allowing convenient access to Pattaya Beach for commuters traveling along the Don Mueang-Suvarnabhumi-U-Tapao high-speed railway. The Line will have 13 stations and will run from the high-speed train station to Bali Hai pier, making it easier for tourists to board boats headed for Koh Lan.
The development project will be executed in three phases. The first phase (2021-2026) will focus on constructing the Green Line alongside the Yellow Line, a dual-track rail project connecting Chon Buri and Sattahip district in the southern part of the province. The Purple Line will be built during the second phase (2027-2031), connecting Nong Prue municipality to Muang Pattaya 8 School in Bang Lamung district. The third phase (2032-2036) will see the construction of the Red Line, which will run from the Eastern National Sports Training Center on Chaiyaphruek 2 Road to the Dolphin Roundabout.
Over 80% of those who attend the public hearing also agreed that a monorail system would be most suitable for the city of Pattaya.
