66-Million-Year-Old Ammonite Fossils, Unknowingly Used As Footpath Decorations, Found at a Shopping Mall in Thailand | The Weather Channel – Articles from The Weather Channel

Imagine walking into a modern-day shopping mall and encountering creatures that inhabited the Earth 66 million years ago! This has been the reality for visitors of the Siam Square mall in Bangkok, Thailand, where about 77 ammonite fossils were seen hiding in plain sight — quite literally.

On April 26, an eagle-eyed visitor spotted an ancient-looking, snail-shaped fossil decoratively embedded into the footpath outside the Siam Square mall. The curious individual photographed the fossil and uploaded it on social media.

The post soon went viral, even grabbing the attention of the commander of Thailand’s Department of Natural Resources, who immediately deployed a team of archaeologists and palaeontologists to inspect the petrified remains.
